Jul 8–Jul 14, 2026. Top performer: Rockies OF Mickey Moniak, who hit .406 with 2 HR, 6 RBI and 7 runs over his last 10 games since returning from an ankle injury, including a 3-for-4, three-extra-base-hit night against the Marlins. Otherwise a rough week for the roster — five players are on the injured list (Hays, Abel, Pivetta, Bader, Suarez), and both Nick Castellanos and Andrew McCutchen are no longer with their listed teams.

Players

Seranthony Dominguez — White Sox — P

This week: Lost his grip on high-leverage work; Chicago has shifted to bullpen-by-committee. Stats: 4.85 ERA, 12 SV, 5.5 BB/9 (both career worsts), tied for 2nd in MLB with 5 blown saves. Highlights: none this week. News: Told reporters Tuesday it's "a hard moment," no longer pitching in save situations.

Austin Hays — White Sox — (OF)

This week: Ran the bases as part of rehab progression, moving closer to a minor league rehab assignment. Stats: .233 AVG, 1 HR, 7 RBI (limited 2026 action). Highlights: none, still out. News: On the 60-day IL with a left calf strain after a setback during an earlier rehab attempt.

Rhys Hoskins — Guardians — (1B)

This week: Ceded the everyday first-base job to prospect Cooper Ingle after going 6-for-48 (.125) over his prior 13 starts, but delivered off the bench with a 2-for-2, two-RBI pinch-hit appearance including a go-ahead double in a comeback win. Stats: .177 AVG, .664 OPS, 7 HR, 29 RBI (season). News: Reduced to a bench/situational role.

Mickey Moniak — Rockies — (OF)

This week: Roster's hottest hitter — .406 average, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 7 R over his last 10 games since fully shaking off a right ankle injury. Stats: .279 AVG, .924 OPS, 15 HR (season, career-best pace). Highlights: 3-for-4 with a solo HR, a triple and a double in one game vs. Miami. News: Trade Deadline (Aug. 3) speculation is picking up around him.

Matt Strahm — Royals — P

This week: Reached 10 years of MLB service time on Jul. 11 — same day he surrendered a go-ahead two-run homer in a 5-3 loss at Baltimore. Stats: 5.81 ERA, 31 IP (season); had posted a 1.23 ERA over his prior 8 appearances before that outing. News: Acquired earlier this year from Philadelphia for Jonathan Bowlan; the long ball (2.4 HR/9, a career high) remains his biggest issue.

Jordan Romano — Rockies — P

This week: No longer with the Angels — he was designated for assignment by Los Angeles on Apr. 26 (0-2, 10.13 ERA in 8 IP there) and has since resurfaced with Colorado after a minor league deal and Triple-A promotion. Stats: Scoreless-inning save in his second Rockies outing (Jul. 5). News: Roster note — team affiliation on file should be updated to Rockies.

News: Being called Minnesota's first-half MVP and part of the conversation around being snubbed for the All-Star Game.

Nick Pivetta — Padres — P

This week: Threw a light bullpen session Saturday, a step forward in his rehab. Stats: On the 60-day IL, no MLB innings logged this stretch. News: Recovering from a right elbow flexor strain since mid-April; return unlikely before late July/early August. Padres added Lucas Giolito to cover the rotation.

Walker Buehler — Padres — P

This week: Rough stretch continues — took the loss to Arizona, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits over 5 innings; has given up 16 earned runs across his last two starts combined (including a 9-ER, 4-inning meltdown vs. the Cubs and an 8-0 shutout loss to Arizona). Stats: 5-5, ERA jumped from 3.81 to 5.07 over the stretch. News: Next start comes at home vs. Toronto just before the All-Star break; manager Craig Stammen says the break should help him reset.

Nick Castellanos — Free agent (ex-Padres) — (OF)

This week: No longer with San Diego — designated for assignment, then released, and has now cleared waivers as a free agent. Stats: .191/.221/.339, 4 HR, 20 RBI in 39 games with the Padres before his release (.154/.200/.212 over his final 55 PA). News: May have to settle for a minor league deal to continue his career. Roster note — no longer a Padre.

Giants continuing a Drew Gilbert/Jonah Cox center-field platoon in his absence.

Andrew McCutchen — Braves org. (ex-Rangers) — (OF/DH)

This week: No longer with Texas — DFA'd May 27 and released, he signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves on Jul. 2. Stats: .192/.277/.260, 1 HR, 5 RBI in 37 games with the Rangers. News: Roster note — now in the Braves organization on a minors deal, not on Texas's roster.

Jeff Hoffman — Blue Jays — P

This week: Stripped of the closer role as Toronto shifts to a committee, but has been excellent lately — 2 wins, 2 saves and a hold over his last five appearances with no runs allowed and a 9:0 K:BB. Stats: 6.05 ERA, 3 SV, 34 K (season). News: Credits a return to heavier slider usage, mirroring his dominant 2023-24 Phillies seasons; signed through 2027.

J.P. Crawford — Mariners — (SS/3B)

This week: Activated off the IL (right hand contusion) without needing a rehab assignment, and for the first time in his Mariners tenure started at third base — a shift to accommodate prospect Colt Emerson at shortstop. Stats: .231 AVG, .773 OPS, 10 HR, 23 RBI, 31 R (season); hit .333 over his 11 games right before the injury. News: Positional move could stick going forward.

Stats: 4-3, 3.15 ERA, 97 K in 17 starts — leads Boston's rotation in ERA. News: Named an AL All-Star but will miss the All-Star Game in Philadelphia; IL stint runs at least through Jul. 21, also costing him a scheduled start vs. the Mets.

Scott Kingery — Cubs — (INF/OF)

This week: On the Temporary Inactive List with Triple-A Iowa. Stats: Just 4 PA in 8 MLB games (mostly pinch-running) before being outrighted off the 40-man in April when Chicago added Nicky Lopez. News: No indication of an imminent recall.

Braden Montgomery — White Sox — OF

This week: Named to play left field and bat second for the AL in the All-Star Futures Game, set for Jul. 17 in Atlanta. Stats: Made his MLB debut Jun. 9 after a 1.035 OPS at Double-A Birmingham and an .864 OPS at Triple-A Charlotte.
